Below you will find activities that are designed to follow instruction on the various relationships between chords, tangents, secants, etc in a circle ... or wherever you see fit. I you are looking for a gsp that details all the circle relationships, click here for access to that. I did the Carousel activity by myself and worked with James Schaffer on the remaining tasks. These were designed as part of one of the classes that we took for our undergraduate program. We were to design lesson plans for three consecutive days in a Math II class. We did the Hexagon task, area of shaded regions, and orange you glad.. activities in that order.
Carousel Activity - Arc Length and Sector Area
The Hexagon Task - Arc Length and Sector Area
Area of Shaded Regions - Using a basketball court
Orange you glad... Task - Surface Area of a Sphere and video for Volume of a Sphere
World's Gym - Application of Surface Area and Volume of a Sphere including the effect of dobuling the diameter on the volume.
I also compiled the middle three activities into part of a unit plan. This unit plan includes a summary of the unit, time line, beginning and ending assessments, and the lesson plans for the three activities above. The word document for the culminating activity can be found here. It is real world project where students are supposed to find examples in everyday life of given descriptors.
